Florida: Grayton Beach
(for Carla)

To come to the same place more
than once with the same friend

is beyond mere blessing. To watch water
water, aquamarine, perfectly clear,

year after year after year -- even here
on Florida's panhandle white shore

is a gift. To swim in kaleidoscopic waves,
sip wine at sunset, snap shots

all cause me to recall my childhood
trips here in the fifties. To return is a wheel

of wonder I'd risk my life for. Beauty
but also repetition is the world's circle

revolving, I think, around sand, water,
dazzling earth-space. This pre-hurricane grace.
